Visual Pattern Task
You will see a series of very brief visual displays. On each display, four red/green circles will appear around fixation.
Your task is to decide whether all four circles have the same left/right colour arrangement, or whether one of them is different. Please keep your eyes on the fixation cross and respond as accurately as you can.
This is a browser-based teaching demonstration, not a calibrated laboratory experiment.

What happened: during the repeated trials, a faint gold circle appeared at fixation along with the outer red/green circles. On the final trial, that gold circle was not presented. The final question asked whether you nevertheless reported seeing anything else.
This demonstration illustrates a central idea in expectation-awareness work: when attention is occupied by another task and sensory evidence is weak or absent, a repeated expectation may still influence what someone reports experiencing. It does not prove that this occurred on any single run, but it gives an intuitive feel for the logic of the experimental design.
In a real experiment, stimulus size, contrast, timing, viewing distance, luminance, randomisation, exclusion criteria, and response coding would all need to be carefully controlled.
