Watch the scene carefully and count the hand taps. Try to keep your attention on the counting task throughout the clip.
What this demonstrates
This is a demonstration of change blindness: large changes can be missed when attention is engaged elsewhere at the moment the change occurs.
The implication is that human perception is not a complete photographic recording of the world. Conscious visual experience depends on attention, task demands, memory, expectations, and the way the visual system samples and updates information over time.
In everyday life this matters for driving, eyewitness memory, teaching, interface design, safety monitoring, and any situation in which people assume they will automatically notice important changes just because those changes are large.
